Alarming Teen Alcohol Abuse Statistics

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

We are often inudated with facts regarding alcohol abuse. The dangers of underage drinking, and the results that come of it. What we fail to realize is that the facts need to be a catalyst to something more. It is not good enough that someone just listens to the statistics, something has to be done to handle an alcohol abuse problem and that solution is an effective drug and alcohol rehab.

According to the Marin Institute;

Alcohol is a leading cause of death among youth, particularly teenagers.

Every day, on average, 11,318 American youth (12 to 20 years of age) try alcohol for the first time.

Alcohol is by far the most used and abused drug among America’s teenagers. According to a national survey, nearly one third of all high school students reported hazardous drinking during the 30 days prior to the survey.

Children who are drinking alcohol by the 7th grade are more likely to report academic problems, substance abuse, and delinquent behavior in both middle school and high school. By young adulthood, early alcohol use was associated with employment problems, other substance abuse, and criminal and other violent behavior.

Young people who begin drinking before age 15 are four times more likely to develop alcoholism than those who begin drinking at 21.

More than 1,700 college students in the U.S. are killed each year – about 4.65 a day – as a result of alcohol-related injuries.

The Military and Binge Drinking

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Alcoholism does not discriminate. It doesn’t know if you should be sober to drive, ti doesn’t know if the next drink is going to kill you and it doesn’t know if your career is on the line if you drink. However, that is exactly what happens to people who are in the military and binge drink. According to a study conducted by the Center For Disease Control and Prevention, 43% of active-duty military personnel reported past-month binge drinking.

Binge drinking is most common amongst younger people, ages 18 – 24. This indicates that alcoholism is becoming more and more common among the younger generation. The only real way to handle an alcohol addiction is to enroll in a drug and alcohol rehab

Narconon Louisiana is a long-term, inpatient facility, located just outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. If you or anyone you know is in need of help for a drug or alcohol addiction please call Narconon Louisiana at 866-422-4650 for more information.

Charlie Sheen Enters Rehab For Alcohol Addiction

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Charlie Sheen entered rehab today as a “preventative measure” for alcohol abuse. This is not the first time the actor has admitted himself into a rehab, but this time it’s shortly after his wife began treatment for her own drug addiction.

Alcohol addiction has the ability to destroy a person’s body in a number of ways. Alcoholics can experience a wide range of symptoms like dizziness, nausea and vomiting, cardiovascular disease, chronic pancreatitis, liver disease and wet brain (confusion, loss of short term memory).

When an alcoholic stops drinking they can experience a wide range of withdrawal symptoms like seizures, delirium tremens (an acute episode of delirium), visual hallucinations and anxiety. One of the most alarming thing about an alcohol addiction is that the withdrawals can be fatal.

Like Charlie Sheen, the only safe way to come off of alcohol is to enroll in a drug and alcohol rehab. Call Narconon Louisiana at 866-422-4650 for more information.

Alcohol PD Under Scrutiny After Several Alcohol Related Incidents

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

The Chicago PD came under the microscope after several alcohol related incidents occurred. In 2006, Anthony Abbate, an officer who was off duty, was caught on tape beating a female bartender. In 2009, two officers who had been drinking were involved in fatal car accidents.

Officer Richard Bolling was charged with reckless homicide after he hit and killed 13 year old Trenton Booker while the child was riding his bike. Officer Bolling was given a breathalyzer four hours after the accident and blew a .079.

In April, 2009 Detective Joseph Frugoli was charged with reckless homicide and DUI in a crash that killed two men on the Dan Ryan Expy.

Due to these very public offenses, the city of Chicago has made some changes regarding alcohol in the police stations. Officers will be subjected to random breathalyzers. If they come up positive for alcohol they will be given a chance to enroll an alcohol rehab.

One such rehab that specializes in helping people break free from the bonds of alcohol and drug addiction is Narconon Louisiana. Narconon Louisiana is a long-term, inpatient facility that focuses on allowing an individual to live their life free from the iron clad grips of addiction.

Could Alcohol Rehab Have Saved Daniel Kerrigan?

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Nancy Kerrigan made a name for herself in the 90′s for her much publicized feud with fellow figure skater, Tanya Harding. Unfortunately more than ten years later her name is back in the headlines, this time because her brother Mark Kerrigan is being held for questioning regarding their father’s death.

Police were called to the Kerrigan home on SUnday to find Daniel Kerrigan unconscious and Mark Kerrigan visibly drunk and resistive to the police. He is currently being held with a $10,000.00 bail until investigators can determine whether Daniel Kerrigan died as a result of a physical altercation the two had prior to the death, or a heart attack.

Regardless of the outcome, it is vital that Mark Kerrigan handle the alcohol abuse problem that he clearly has. Alcohol and drug rehab would have either prevented Mark from being tied to the death of his father, or it would have prevented the death totally. Narconon Louisiana is a drug and alcohol rehab that specializes in helping people break free from addiction. Boasting a 76% success rate, the Narconon program is one of the most successful rehabilitation facilities in the country.
