Alcohol Abuse Among College Students On The Rise

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

It comes as no surprise that the vast majority of college students drink, and they usually drink a lot. However, what is a surprise is how many people in college drink to the point where it is dangerous. In fact, just this weekend 12 college students were rushed to the hospital for alcohol poisoning at a Massachusetts college.

Please take a moment to read the following alcohol-related statistics as they pertain to college students.

1,700 college students between the ages of 18 – 24 die each year from alcohol-related injuries.

599,000 college students are unintentionally injured while under the influence of alcohol.

More than 97,000 college students are sexually assaulted, either by someone who is drunk or while they, themselves, are drunk.

More than 100,000 college students reported that they have been to drunk to remember if they consented to sex.

The Military and Binge Drinking

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Alcoholism does not discriminate. It doesn’t know if you should be sober to drive, ti doesn’t know if the next drink is going to kill you and it doesn’t know if your career is on the line if you drink. However, that is exactly what happens to people who are in the military and binge drink. According to a study conducted by the Center For Disease Control and Prevention, 43% of active-duty military personnel reported past-month binge drinking.

Binge drinking is most common amongst younger people, ages 18 – 24. This indicates that alcoholism is becoming more and more common among the younger generation. The only real way to handle an alcohol addiction is to enroll in a drug and alcohol rehab

Alarming DUI Statistics

It seems like everyone knows that driving under the influence is not only dangerous, but often times lethal. But despite this understanding, thousands of people take that risk every year when they get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. After all the deaths, injuries and losses, drunk driving is still just as dangerous and just as lethal.

So far, in 2010, there have been over 3,000 alcohol-related deaths. If that rate continues more than 9,000 people will be dead due to the deadly combination of alcohol and vehicles. Additionally, of all traffic fatalities in 2008, 37% of them were alcohol related.

Sometimes driving drunk is one time thing that people have done. However, most often, drunk drivers are habitual offenders. Unlike those suffering from a heroin addiction, or a cocaine addiction, alcohol is legal and can be bought in almost any grocery store. This often times makes staying away from alcohol extremely difficult. The only real way to handle this is to enroll someone who has an alcohol dependancy in a long term, inpatient drug and alcohol rehab.

Before more people get killed by drunk drivers, please take the time to talk to someone that drives drunk and let them know that there is help out there. If you or anyone you know is in need of help for a drug or alcohol addiction please call Narconon Louisiana at 866-422-4650 for more information.

Rip Torn Pleads Not Guilty

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Actor Rip Torn plead not guilty on Tuesday for charges that he broke into a bank, was in possession of a gun and was attempting to rob the bank. Reports have indicated that Rip Torn was extremely intoxicated and has had problems with alcohol addiction in the past.

Often times people think of heroin addiction, or cocaine addiction when they think of an addict. However, alcohol addiction is the biggest drug threat to the United States. One of the biggest barriers to overcoming this addiction is the constant reminders of alcohol and the constant cravings that alcoholics experience.

One drug and and alcohol rehab has developed a method of detoxification that eliminates cravings. The New Life Detoxification Program is a sauna program which allows the body to rid itself of the harmful drug and alcohol toxins that attach themselves to the fatty tissues in the body. These toxins release into the bloodstream during moments of physical exhertion or stress, causing cravings.

Boasting a 76% success rate, Narconon Louisiana has used the New Life Detoxification program since its inception. If you or anyone you know is in need of help for a drug or alcohol addiction please call Narconon Louisiana at 866-422-4650 for more information.
