Alcohol and Caffeine a Bad Idea

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Caffeinated alcoholic beverage are straight out the “What Were They Thinking?” file.  Reports are surfacing that as high as 26% of college students are consuming these beverages along with reports of potential health and safety issues.  Now the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will be investigating scientific evidence  of health issues.

One has to ask themselves, is a wide awake drunk any less dangerous? Alcohol abuse is a serious problem. Combine that with additional “fun” or “excitement” of being stimulated is nothing to be lax about, especially when these wide awake drunks get behind the wheel and drive under the influence.

When is abusing alcohol gone too far?  How often does one need to play Russian Roulette driving under the influence before they seek help? What is needed more than ever is an effect drug and alcohol treament which addresses the underlying reasons and resolves this so one never needs to go back to destructive behavior again.

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Boston’s WCVB TV online ran a story November 4th Entitled, “Experts: More Women Hiding Alcohol, Drug Abuse.

The news report start with “As more women enter the workforce, more are turning to self-medicating with alcohol and drugs to help them balance the challenges of work and family, experts say.

Many of the women are hiding it from their families.

Nichelle Taylor, 40, admitted she was a 24-hour a day user for years. She said it started with marijuana, but quickly moved to pills, sniffing and smoking cocaine, and then finally, heroin. Taylor said the drugs made her feel better and took her to another place — until the day they nearly killed her.”

Unfortunately, Taylor’s case is becoming more common. What is truly needed is an effective drug and alcohol rehab program to address the reasons behind one’s addiciton, be it alcohol or drugs.
