The St. Louis Cardinals are no strangers to the local police. In fact in the past three years they have had four alcohol-related arrests, including one death. Rehabilitation for alcohol would have allowed this team, and thousands of other offenders to prevent these tragedies from occurring. Alcohol abuse and it’s related crimes affect thousands of people every day. Rehabilitation and education is the only way to ultimately handle the crippling addiction. Narconon Louisiana is one such facility that focuses on alcohol addiction, and how to eliminate it from our society.
Most recently the third baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals, David Freese, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The team’s bad luck streak began in 2007 when manager Tony La Russa was arrested in Florida for driving under the influence. Later, relief pitcher Josh Hancock, was killed when he crashed his sports utility vehicle into a parked tow truck. Scott Spiezio was released from the team after new reports surfaced of his 2007 hit and run. This is a team that needs to focus on the health and well-being of it’s players. Although David Freese insists that he does not have a problem with alcohol, this is the second arrest for alcohol related crimes that he has received. The Cardinals management is not requiring rehabilitation, although it is clear that that’s what is needed.
Rehabilitation for alcohol is possible. Although many people focus on the 12-step model of rehabilitation, there is another, more effective way to live a life without alcohol and it’s resulting effects. Narconon Louisiana is a long-term, inpatient facility located just outside of Baton Rouge. Focused on handling the addict’s life, Narconon Louisiana does not subscribe to the idea that addiction is a disease. Instead clients work with a counselor one on one to find out what problems drugs and alcohol was a solution for.
In addition to handling the underlying problems that cause a person to resort to alcohol, Narconon Louisiana employs a unique sauna detoxification program that eliminates cravings. Cravings are what cause an individual to continually go back to alcohol even with several months clean time. When an individual ingests a drug or alcohol, the metabolites stick to the fat tissues in the body. These metabolites stay in the body for months, sometimes years, re-releasing into the bloodstream and causing cravings. In the case of David Freese, had he enrolled in a rehabilitation program like Narconon, handling why he needed to drink, and the cravings that undoubtedly experiences, he probably wouldn’t have been arrested this weekend.
